Understanding the NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) represents a transformational approach to supporting Australians with disabilities. It’s a revolutionary program designed to empower individuals with permanent and significant disabilities to live autonomously, engage in their communities, and achieve their life goals.
The NDIS prioritises individual choice and control, ensuring that every participant can access the support they need, tailored to their unique circumstances. Shine Angel is proud to align with the NDIS’s vision, offering services that resonate with its core principles, enabling participants to shine their brightest.
Principles and Objectives
Key Features of NDIS
- Individualised Plans: The NDIS recognises that every individual has unique needs. Participants get tailored plans designed to help them achieve their specific goals.
- Choice and Control: Participants are free to choose their providers and the type of support they receive, ensuring they remain at the helm of their journey.
- Early Intervention: Recognising the importance of timely assistance, the NDIS emphasises early intervention, providing support as soon as necessary.
- Lifetime Approach: The NDIS adopts a long-term perspective, ensuring that participants receive the necessary support throughout their lives, adjusting as their needs evolve.
Eligibility Criteria for NDIS
To become an NDIS participant, individuals must meet specific criteria:
- Age Requirements: Be under 65 at the time of the application.
- Residency Status: Be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen holding a Protected Special Category Visa.
- Disability Requirements: Have a permanent and significant disability that affects one's ability to participate in everyday activities or requires assistance from another person or equipment.
- Early Intervention Requirements: Children aged six and under have a developmental delay causing significant challenges in daily functions or social participation. Early intervention support might be necessary for those aged seven and above due to their disability.
